When I say “read” I do mean in either physical or audio form. I find myself listening to books more since I can get through books faster that way.
For the types of books, I mostly read science fiction. I do some fantasy, a few biographies, and some factual science books. I enjoy writers like John Scalzi, Jim Butcher, Harry Turtledove, Peter Clines, Brandon Sanderson, and Larry Corriea for my sci-fi/fantasy fix. For factual books Sam Kean and Richard Rhodes are a couple authors I like.
Right now, I am listening through the Wheel of Time series (I am only on book 9 right now) by Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson). In physical form I am re-reading the Worldwar series by Harry Turtledove. I have read through it a few times before, but I really enjoy that series. Redshirts by John Scalzi is one of my favorite books. I am a huge Star Trek fan so hearing this book (read by Wil Wheaton) was entertaining, and it is a bit like Galaxy Quest as well so that makes it fun too. The Monster Hunter and Grimnoir books by Larry Corriea are just a your straight forward action adventure book. I enjoy series that have good world building built into them like the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, and everything I have read by Brandon Sanderson as well.
I also have enjoyed the factual books like The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Kean and the silly, but factual, book What If (1 and 2) and How To by Randall Munroe (the XKCD comic guy).
And of course, I read the Bible. I have read through the Bible at least 5 or 6 times in my life, and I am currently doing that again. I started this last time in the New Testament and now am in the Old Testament. I have read it in a few different translations as well: NIV, NKJV, NAS and currently The Message. There is so much I get from reading the Bible, and I will write specifically about that at a later date – so check back.
So, I read different things. I like books. I like them for learning, and I like them for fun. I don’t read fast, but I stick to it. I am working on my top/favorite books list as well. Once I get it done along with some notes, I will post it as well.
What about you all? Do you read? If so what do you read? Why do you read it?
