So our time in Japan was coming to an end in a few days. This day had a big event planned. “B” and the girls had been watching videos of Otters online for months. They were associated with these otter café’s in Japan. Well, “B” found out that she could schedule an hour of private time with an otter while we were there. She booked time at one for us months ago, and didn’t tell the girls about it. So, we headed out and walked to the otter café. When we got there there was much glee from “A” since otters are her favorite animal. We got in and we had an hour with 2 different otters (Age and Wasabi). The first one was chill and we had fun with it, and the second was full of energy and never stopped moving. It was an hour of a lot of fun. “A” was over the moon and said it was the best day of her entire life (well so far that is). Afterwards, we were in a big shopping district so the girls went looking for Kimonos. I wandered around. I bought some neck cool devices that you put in the fridge or freezer and they get very cold to wear around you neck. We thought these would be good in Singapore (which they were). After a couple hours of shopping (yes Kimonos were purchased for the girls), it was time for “B” to head to FedEx. You see, the ladies in my family had bought a lot in Japan, this was expected, and “B” and I had decided that we would ship a bunch of it home before we headed off the Singapore. “B” gets a great FedEx rate through her job, and so she took all the stuff we wanted to ship to FedEx. This required her to take a train and a taxi to the 1 FedEx location in Kyoto. There aren’t that many FedEx locations in all of Japan. We were very surprised. So, if you are planning to ship things from Japan to the US, maybe don’t use FedEx. This is when the day went sideways for all of us. I assumed this process would take about 2 hours with travel for “B”. I couldn’t have been more wrong. She got to FedEx with no issues, but once there she was told by FedEx that most of the stuff that she planned to ship, she wasn’t allowed to ship. They said not chocolate (which was most the stuff) and no expensive clothing (kimonos). “B” was sure that is was ok to ship the stuff since we had looked it up before she went. With the language gap as well this ordeal went on with them for 3+ hours at FedEx. During this time she and I were texting back and forth about the situation. I could tell things were not going well. Then there was the situation that occurred with “A” at home. While we were at our place “A” came into a room I was in in tears. Her brand new necklace she had just bought the day before was missing a piece on it. It had broken. We looked around a little for it, but it was not going to be found. After many tears we decided to see if the store would do anything for us. I used my computer and Skype to call the store and they said they would exchange it for us or refund it. But the store was a 30-minute train ride and walk and we were running out of time. So, “G”, “A” and I rushed to the subway then walked fast to the store before they closed. The people there were super gracious as we ran in about 30 minutes before they closed, and “A” went to look for a new necklace. Low and behold she found one that she liked even more than the one she had picked the previous time, and there was much rejoicing. I had told her that it would all work out and that God was watching over us. It took her less time to find the replacement than it did for me to talk to the people and show them the broken necklace. It was totally a God thing. Then we worked our way back to the house (all without internet since “B” had the internet device with her). “B” finally got done after 7pm with FedEx (they closed at 6pm). We decided to meet at a train station because we wanted to see the Fushimi Gates. I took her food, she ate in the train station, and we headed to the gates at 8pm. Once there we wandered around and through them. It was quite a sight to see. There are hundreds of these red “gates” (RED GATES) that are dedicated to different things/people. It was very pretty at night, and I am glad we got to see them. We got back to our place well after 10pm, and so another late night. “B” was frazzled from the FedEx stuff, and I can’t blame her. She told me all about it, and it sounded like it was a hard experiences. But the stuff mostly got shipped and many days later we were told my in-laws received the box. So, a day that had great times with the Otters also had some really hard times as well. But through it all God was there taking care of the situations.
