The next day we were off to the Botanic Gardens. “B” really wanted to spend time at their orchid area, and it didn’t let us down. It did cost extra to get into that area, but the rest of the garden was free so no worries there. The orchids were lovely. It rained on and off, and even poured for a time. But we found a nice gazebo to hang out under until the hard stuff pasted us by. The rain lowered the temperature some so it wasn’t terrible out for part of the day.
After that we headed to Little India and had some great Indian food. When we first got off the subway we saw a place that looked fine, but “B” saw that there were only white people there and then noticed that all the locals were heading to other places. So we wandered over there and had GREAT food for less money. It was super spicey and very tasty. As the saying should go if it doesn’t already, “Eat where the locals eat.” By now the humidity was back up and it was pretty awful again.
That evening we headed out to the Night Safari that is a special thing that is by the zoo. It is a zoo, but only open at night. I kept calling it a Night Circus. That is a book I really like, and my brain got all confused. I am not sure how many times I switched the name throughout the day. We got to see otters (“A” was very excited), and they were super active. That makes sense since they are more active at dawn/dusk. We saw a number of other animals as well and it was a nice zoo time that was different. I think it would be cool if the Phoenix Zoo would consider something like this sometime. We had some random zoo food for dinner including some steam buns that looked like animals. It was fine food, but after the lunch we had it didn’t compare at all. Since this was a night safari it meant we got back very late. I didn’t get to sleep until after 1am. And did I mention that it was still hot and humid that late at night. I was not liking Singapore that much.
The next day we needed to get laundry done. I did some looking online the few days prior to figure out laundry. I was hoping to find a relatively cheap place to drop our laundry and then get it washed to pick up some other day. But I found nothing. I was a little surprised. Now, it may just be that I wasn’t looking in the right area. I was trying to find something close to our place so I wouldn’t have to travel too far with a lot of dirty laundry. But there were a few laundromats around. So, we went to one of those. I hung out there and did the laundry while the girls were going to wander the area. It started to rain on our way there, and then the skies opened up and there was a hard downpour for about 25-30 minutes. We got that done and went to lunch at a place down the street the ladies had found. It was a nice Chinese skewer place. You ordered meat, veggies, etc. and they came on skewers and we kept them warm at the table on a warming plater. It was pretty good. It was humid again, did I mention how much I really don’t like humidity. We took the clothes back to the hotel room, and then headed to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. This was over an hour of subways and buses to get to and we went mostly because we had read that there was a good chance of seeing otters. So, out we went. We got there with no issue and then started walking through the area. It was a wetland area. Not much in my opinion. We saw no otters. We saw some fish and some birds. In all honesty I thought it was a waste of time. We did see an alligator. Maybe during other times of the year it would be better, but not in the middle of June. The humidity and stuff built up in me again and “B” and I had another pretty heated argument at the wetlands. This time it was about dinner. She has seen a frozen dinner vending machine and had decided this made the most sense for dinner. I wanted to leave, and the park was closing in a few minutes, and there were lots of signs indicating that they would not let you walk through the park once it was closed. So, I didn’t want to get stuck on one side of the park when it closed and to have to figure out how to get back to the bus stop we needed to get to. So, I let my frustrations get out, and she let hers as well. But we got home and made the dinners, and it was fine. I work past these arguments pretty fast. I don’t like dwelling on things.
