I spent the weekend up at our cabin in the White Mountains. I will write about it more sometime in the future. Right now I am just writing a little something about the weekend. My girls are on modified year-round school schedule now, and that means they get 2 weeks for fall break (actually 2.5 weeks due to teacher days). For the second week my wonderful wife said that she would take the girls up to our cabin for the week. She would work from the cabin during the week, and the girls would do things on their own.
We headed up Friday afternoon. I rode my motorcycle up while the girls came up in the 4runner. Part of their plan for their time was to do a lot of jam making. Getting up was easy, and the traffic wasn’t that bad thankfully. We stopped in Payson at a place called, Danzeisen Dairy, that does fun milkshakes on the way up. When we got up I made dinner and we had a nice evening. The next day the girls all slept in, and I spent time reading. After breakfast I headed out for a bike ride, and boy was it windy. It was a hard ride at times, but I still managed to have a pretty good average speed. During this time the ladies were working on making jam. Our plum tree in Chandler was quite prolific this year and so there was a lot of material to work with. They brought up fig, plum and pomegranate to work with. They worked all day and I think they said they made 8 batches. I am not sure how many jars that is exactly, but I think each batch has something like 8 jars. I got to read and grade papers during this time. Then dinner and a family walk (3 of us needed steps for the day) to finish off the evening. Oh yeah, and I went to our favorite bakery and picked up lots of bread and pastries as well.
Sunday, we went to church, had lunch, and the girls made more jam. It was crazy to watch them working so hard, and efficiently together. Not sure how many batches got made this day, but it was a bunch again (I think 6). I got in another bike ride, and then I had to head back to Chandler. I have to teach still since I don’t get a fall break. I will head back up at the end of the week and spend another weekend with them again.
And now I am home alone for a few days. I am going to get a few things done around the house.
I really enjoy time up at the cabin. I like the relaxation of it. I enjoy the peacefulness. I get to see the trees. We go on hikes. It is cooler. The beauty of the area. I am so blessed to own this place.
