Last weekend I decided to do my first 40km (25 mile) bike ride since getting back from our summer trip. Prior to this it has been either too hot or I just haven’t had the time to do it on the weekend. I didn’t have too much expectation from the ride since my usual long ride has been around 18 miles.
Well I did well. I had a new personal record for a 40km.
I did the 40km in 1:15:47 which was 1 second faster than my previous record. I was quite surprised. It felt like a good ride. I didn’t have as high a max speed as I usualy get on this ride, and as a result I thought I wouldn’t have hit the record, but I had a better average speed. That is good. That means my body is doing better overall while riding.
The new thing on this ride was the fact that I almost hit a rattlesnake. It was lying on the side of the road and I was about 5ft from it when I realized it was a rattlesnake and ended up swerving quite a bit to make sure not to either hit it or spook it.
