So that noise I mentioned in a post earlier this week. Well, I just got off the phone with one shop and they are fairly confident, without having the bike on hand to test out mind you, that it is the bevel gear assembly.
This was the worst possible option in my opinion. The place I talked to won’t do the work because it is a huge time hog and the precision needed to get all the backlash just right isn’t worth their time. They guy said that if you get off even a little then you run a major chance of wearing out the new bevel gear assembly quite quickly.
Then I called the local Kawasaki dealership / shop and asked them the cost to do the repair.
Wait for it…
$3750 for parts and labor.
Ouch – the bike is only worth about $4500 (maybe $5000).
I am going to try calling a couple more independent places and see what they say as well, but I was leaning to that being the issue. So now I have to decide what to do. Now I really may need to think about getting my old Honda running again until I can find and justify a replacement motorcycle.
Updates to come.
