A while back I bought my wife and I a book from a company called The Adventure Challenge. I got the Couples Edition because it was supposed to be filled with great date ideas. I thought this would be something great for my wife and I. It has scratch off squares so you don’t know what the date will be beforehand. There are some clues about timing, location, childcare, etc. but that is about it. We have done few of them, but this last year I realized I don’t think we did any of them.
Until last night. We had a couple nights without the kids, and so we decided to scratch off a couple of them. One was a quick one and one was a long one. The long one was a progressive dinner date. We had to go to three different restaurantsTa over the course of an evening and get appetizers at the first, dinner at the second, and dessert at the third. This sounded like fun and so we did it.
We decided to head to old town Scottsdale for this since there are a number of restaurants there and we had been to a couple that we really liked and thought it would serve our purposes.
Our first stop was Tapas Papa Frita for tapas. We had been before and enjoyed the tapas so this was perfect for our starters. We had crab stuffed peppers, roasted garlic and sausage, and a pork in an almond and spice sauce. They were all very delicious.
Then outside there was a pretty archway setup so we had someone take our picture there too.
After that we walked to a place called Evo: Old Town Scottsdale. It was recommended by our server at the Tapas place. It was casual Italian. I ordered a Chili Shrimp pasta and “B” ordered Pesto Chicken Primavera. Mine wasn’t spicy at all but it was tasty. “B” enjoyed hers as well.
After that we needed dessert. We decided to walk around and see what all was available. We saw a number of ice cream / gelato places, but none of them really jumped out to us. There were no flavors that we thought we REALLY wanted to try. So, we kept walking. We ended up at Barrio Queen. They were busy so we sat at the bar, which was fine. We ordered a Pastel De Chocolate. It was taking a while to get it, and the bartender went to check on it and found out he had made a mistake and forgot to hit enter on the order. So, it had to be reentered, but we ended up getting it for free (no complaints there). It was also very good. Picture doesn’t show it well, but there was chocolate cake, strawberries, and vanilla ice cream.
Then we headed home. It was a lovely evening. I had a great time. I liked the date idea and we felt that it was certainly a repeatable date idea. I love spending time with my wife like this. We can’t do it all the time, but when we can it is certainly a blast!
So, give it a try if you can. I think the concept was a lot of fun, and you don’t have to do anything super fancy. But go out and enjoy time together and try something new and different.
The other thing we scratched off in the book I mentioned above was a journal concept. You get a journal and write things in it about your spouse (significant other) and they are allowed to read it whenever they want. We picked up journals on our way home, and we will do our best to write at least once a week in it. I will try to write on that in the future once we get into that one some more.
