Question from a Reader

Back in December I asked my readers to ask me a question they would like me to answer. I had one taker – thanks brother. So, here is the question and here is my answer:

“If you were a hotdog, and you were starving, would you eat yourself?”

This is a question my brother has asked people for a LONG time. This came from a SNL sketch in the 90’s with Will Ferrelll as Harry Caray.

Would I eat myself if I were a hotdog? Hmmmmm…

I would say no. Seriously, I would be killing myself right? The human body is edible (technically) and I have never thought to myself, “Hey I’m hungry, maybe I should take a bite out of myself.” I would like to think that as a hotdog I would have the same sensibilities and therefore would not be compelled to eat myself.

You might be inclined to say, “But as a hotdog you are tastier than you are as a human.” While I think that is probably true (never having eaten human before), I don’t think I would start munching on myself. There is still that whole – you will die if you eat yourself thing to take into consideration.

Note – I am not a big hotdog person anyways so I am not sure being a hotdog would be much of an enticement for me.

So, my answer is “NO”.
