I had the joy of driving yesterday – a lot.
I got the pick up my oldest daughter and her best friend from Girls Scout Camp in Prescott. I had to leave about 9:50am, and it took me about 2.5 hours from the house to the camp. It was a fine drive. The traffic was terrible in Prescott Valley. Otherwise not too bad, it was certainly getting busy on the I17, but not too bad that early in the morning. Once there I got them, we went the bathroom, and got their stuff. I had to pick the two of them up, and not my youngest daughter who was also there, because yesterday was also the first day of church camp and they need to get there. And guess what, that camp is taking place in San Diego. So, I had to get them from Prescott to San Diego.
So time for drive part 2. Prescott to San Diego is not a straight shot, and not an interstate travel. So we started on Senator Highway and that road is very twisty turny. But we got through that part, and the girls both fell asleep pretty quickly. They were both doing the crazy head-bobbing thing for a while which was funny to watch in the mirror. They got themselves oriented and then slept a bit more. Then it was conversations the rest of the way for the most part. We got gas just before heading into California (cheaper in AZ), and then crossed the boarder at Blythe. In Blythe we turne doff the I10 and started driving through farm country for a while, and I was wondering what Google was doing, but it connected us up to a state highway and we scooted along that road for a while. We eventually connected up with the I8 at El Centro, and then drove the rest of the way to San Diego. We grabbed In and Out (the drive-through was 20+ cars long so we went inside and it only took about 10 minutes tops) and finished to the drive. That took us from 12:45 to 7:30 (so 6 hours and 45 minutes more for me – up to 9 hours and 15 minutes). we made really good time actually and I got the girls there in time for their first evening lesson.
I decided to walk around a little to stretch, get my steps in for the day (I needed 3000 steps still at this point), and do a few lessons in Duolingo. It was now 8:00pm, and I was very awake. Before the trip started I thought I might crash in the car at the camp location for a few hours before driving home, but I was too awake to sleep so I got in the car and headed towards home. I figured if I got tired I would pull off at a rest stop and get in 2-3 hours and then finish the drive.
Well, I didn’t stop. Well I did stop twice to get gas. I needed a little in California to get me to Yuma and there I filled up all the way. I pulled into the house at 2:00am on Saturday. So, that was another 6 hours of driving.
So grand total 15 hours and 15 minutes and about 900 miles of driving yesterday. I am glad that I was able to help my daughter and her friend with this. I am blessed and thankful that God watched over me the entire drive. I never felt sleepy at all the entire day.
