As I have been getting ready for this move to Idaho I have been thinking about different things that I want to make sure didn’t happen. One of those related to my motorcycles. I have two, a 2002 Kawasaki Drifter and a 1970 Honda 350 Scrambler. For both motorcycles I have only ever had one key for each.
There have been times wile I have owned them that I have wondered what I would do if I ever lost the key for the bike. I then I tended to just shrug it off and move on. Well, with the big move coming soon (less than 2 weeks) and the fact that the movers are going to be moving the motorcycles I started to think more about this fact of only 1 key for each motorcycle.
I am not sure if the movers will need the key for either bike. They shouldn’t since the motorcycles can be put into neutral and steered without the need of the key, but since I don’t know I started to wonder what I would do if they lost the keys. I decided that I needed to see about getting a second key made for each of the motorcycles.
That is where Bob comes in. for any of you who live in Mesa, AZ and have ever needed a key made, there is a chance you have heard of Bob’s Lock and Safe. I have used them before (years ago) for something. They do keys for nearly anything you can think of. I called them up and asked if they could make keys for my motorcycles. They said the Kawasaki was no issue at all, but they weren’t sure about the Honda, and would need to see the key, but they thought they could.
So, I headed down there – aside they are right by Doug’s Bugs and Bunnies and so I swung in there to get a bumper bolt of my Beetle that had fallen out so that was an added perk – and I handed them the keys. The guy mentioned he hadn’t see a key that old in a while (the Honda key). He said, “Hey, I’ve got the Honda key too.” I told him to make one of each for me. It took him all of about 1 minute to cut both keys. When he handed me the keys he said, “That Honda key is original to the bike and has the number code on it. So, if you call in and tell me that code I can get the key and cut it without needing the key at all.” That was cool. He also said, “Don’t lose that key.”
So, now I have 2 keys for each motorcycle. I will send the new keys with the bikes for transport if they need keys for some reason. I already put the original keys in my lockbox that will go with me personally for the move.
So, Bob’s Lock and Safe for the save. If you ever need a key made (any kind of key, seriously) you should strongly consider using them. I highly recommend them. They are located on Main St. and Longmore on the Northeast corner in Mesa. They are right across Main St. from EVIT if that helps.
As of right now Google says they are permanently closed, but that isn’t true I was just there and they are very much still open.
