As you all know I am moving. And I am going to miss a lot of things about living in Arizona.
But here is one thing I will not miss:
Owning a pool. I have had two jouses with pools, and while they were fine a lot of the time. They always took so much work. I never found any joy in owning it. I never wanted to get in it, because I looked at it as something I had to work on and take care of. There was no joy in the using of the pool.
And today was an affirmation what I will not miss. Yesterday the pool looked generally fine. I even had a pool guy out to see the pool and equipment to give me quote to watch over it once we move and before we sell the house, and he didn’t say anything about it at the time.
Well, today at about 1pm my wife asked me if I had been out back today, and I said “nope”. Then she said, “Well, the pool is green.” Sure enough the pool was super cloudy and greenish. We had to get to a party for my aunt and uncle’s 50th wedding anniversary so I couldn’t do anything right away, but we left the party a little early so I could get home and start tearing things apart to find out what needed to be fixed before the pool store I like, B&B Pools, closed for the day.
So I got the filter a part and cleaned all the grids, and thankfully they were all in good shape. But I found a leak at one of the main inlet/outlet points of the filter so I had to take it down to the pool store and get a new gasket. They replaced it on the spot right then and there (one of the reasons I like that store so much is their customer service – it’s amazing, and their prices are usually quite good as well). Then back home, reassemble everything, and added algaecide to the pool, chlorine to the pool, brushed it, and started it running. And low and behold it was working amazing again. After just a couple hours it was looking a lot better and by tomorrow I am sure it will be back to normal.
This is something I will not miss at all. I know the rest of my family will miss having a pool, but I certainly won’t.
