A few weeks ago a former student of mine, “D”, emailed me and asked if she could have my wife and I over for dinner with her and her boyfriend before we moved. We said yes, and said that it would be great if it could be the week of the movers and when the girls were out of town with my in-laws. They were cool with that. So, we got it all setup. They told us to bring nothing.
So we got there and “D” and her boyfriend (I am awful and have forgotten his name again) greeted us and we sat for a few minutes talking. Then they brought out dinner.
It was a homemade schnitzel and mashed potatoes (but not regular mashed potatoes). Both had a mushroom sauce on it. There was also a tomato and red onion “salad” on the side. It was very lovely. For dessert we had a homemade key lime pie. It was also very tasty. I know what some of you are thinking, “But you don’t like lime or mushrooms.” I know, but I ate it, and it was good. I didn’t eat all the mushrooms or sauce to be honest, but it was still very nice.
The conversation and time was the best part. We talked traveling. We talked about jobs. We talked about kids (well our kids). We had a nice evening. It was a perfect evening with a former student that I would consider a friend.
I hope you read this “D”. I hope you understand how special it was to my wife and especially me. I hope and pray we stay in touch for years to come. I see that sometimes on Facebook of teachers and former students meeting up years later and spending time together. I hope that I get that with you “D” and with the other “3 blind mice” from those physics classes.
