Dinner with Daughter

On Sunday my wife and I decided to start up something we had done with our girls back in AZ a few things that was fun. We would each take one of our girls on our own out for the evening for dinner and just hang out. We switch back and forth with each girl so we have time with each of them.

So on Sunday I had the chance to spend time with my oldest, “A”. When it was brought up she immediately went, “Can we watch Star Trek (TNG)?” I was like, “Of course.” And thought to myself, “That’s my girl.”

I made her come up with somewhere to get food. Having not been here in Idaho very long and not being a family that eats out much she had to do some digging. She found a cajun place called Hook and Reel. We ordered a couple boil bags online to pick up. We got the same basic thing with shrimp (no heads) and Crawfish, and an order of hushpuppies. We picked it up, and headed home. When I grabbed the bag I said, “There are literally 2 plastic bags in here.” And when we got home sure enough to double bagged dinners.

But the surprise came when we opened the bags and saw:

Yep – those crawfish were still whole. That was not what we were expecting, but then we talked about it and realized we should have expected it. They didn’t say no head like the shrimp option. It meant a lot of work to get to the meat, and in all honesty we didn’t think they had very good flavor. The shrimp, corn and potatoes were good, but the crawfish were, meh.

We enjoyed the last episode of season 1 of TNG – The Neutral Zone. It has only taken about 5 years to get through the first season. My youngest doesn’t care for Star Trek (or much of anything that isn’t a cartoon or The Greatest Showman) so that means “A” hasn’t had much opportunity to watch episodes. Maybe we’ll figure out time for her to keep watching so she can get through them all.

Oh and we made brownies for all 4 of us to have once “G” and my wife got home from their time out. So it was a good night. I am looking forward to doing it again with “G” sometime in the future.

Wonderful! It’s so important to spend time with your girls and keep your family traditions in place. Your girls will never forget it and will most likely pass it on to their own families.
