I have learned more since my posting about Prop 1 here in Idaho.
And it is getting a big no from me.
The reason is mainly two fold:
- It is going to cost a bunch of money for the state to get the right equipment (software) to process the votes to handle the ranked voting. I don’t think it adds enough benefit to justify spending more money.
- The ranking systems seems over complicated and in some ways looks like it allows people get votes they may not deserve. I realize that I could just not rank people and therefore it won’t affect my choice, but still why over complicate it. I can see people getting very confused by this ranking thing and that may cause people to end up having their votes going toward someone that they really didn’t want to vote for.
So a hard no for me – at least the way it is currently written. Maybe in the future if the law gets rewritten and they make it better I would vote for it. I think a simple: you vote for one and that is it, and the top X number make it to the next round sounds like a fine idea to me.
