No we aren’t having a baby.
No we didn’t get a pet.
We got a robot vacuum.

We decided to get a robot vacuum to aid our lives in the realm of cleaning the house. I did a lot or looking online and there are as many likes and dislikes for all of them that I had a hard time figuring out which one made the most sense for us. After much reading, comparing, and pricing I went with a Roborock Qrevo S. It will vacuum and mop.
We have had it for just over a month now (I wanted to give it a little time to evaluate) and I like it.
Initially I had it work on just the upstairs and so it needed to perform a mapping of our main floor. It did that, and didn’t fall down the stairs (a big plus). So then I had it vacuum the upstairs. And it did a good job. It did take a while – many hours. It had to stop and recharge, I think twice, before it completed the job the first time. I felt it didn’t do the job in the most efficient method, but I had read that the robot “thinks” and adapts and gets more efficient each time. It has dropped the vacuum time each time it has run since.
I was also able to carry it downstairs and have it map and run in the basement as well. The system can learn multiple floors, and each time it just has to figure out what floor it is on and then it knows which map to use. The only catch is that you need to place it in the same spot it initially mapped from on each floor every time you want to use in on that floor.
It did a good job in the basement as well. The only issue we had here as that our table chairs were just tall enough that it would go under them, but the top sensor would then get caught on the piece of cross wood on the legs and then drag the chairs around the basement until it came loose from the vacuum. But I solved that problem with some chair pads on the feet of the chair to lift them up a tiny amount.
I set up schedules for the upstairs and it is going well. It vacuums the upstairs once a week completely, and the it does the kitchen twice a week. We like the fact that the house seems cleaner overall. Yes, that is a result of us having to keep the floor decluttered so it can vacuum each week, but it is nice seeing a freshly vacuumed floor.
The mopping feature has also worked well. It hits the hardwood floors and our LVP really well. It doesn’t put down too much liquid and it does leave the floor cleaner. We haven’t had any “big” messes to try and clean up, but I don’t think that is the point of using the robot vacuum.
The vacuum does a good job of telling the difference between carpet, tile and hardwood, and then cleaning in an effective way. It also has sensors that do a pretty good job for avoiding things along the way. Early on we had an encounter with a piece of violin music that was on the ground getting crumpled a little (thankfully not school music), and I am sure if there were hair ties or earrings on the ground it would go right over those and suck them up, but hopefully we won’t have that happen.
The one thing it won’t do are stairs, but I knew that. So, that isn’t a fault of it at all.
So, I am happy. We may even consider one for our cabin at some point.
I think we have decided to call her Rozz (from The Wild Robot). I think the girls are going to add eyes at some point.
Sounds like a twin for the basement makes sense and chance for 2nd nickname.
