The other weekend my family went and saw Shucked. It was the Broadway tour of the Tony winning musical. It sounded funny and it was listed as family friendly for 10+. The email I got the week of said it had a little adult language and some adult innuendo. WE made the decision about a month before the show and I found out that as a BSU employee I can get discounted tickets for shows at our performing arts center. So, I looked them up and we were about to get floor tickets for about 40% off regular price, but there were not 4 tickets together anywhere in the auditorium. So we ended up with 3 and 1.
We got there and were running a little late (bathroom line was long), and I switched entry door numbers for the two locations of tickets. So, we were running to our seats before they closed the doors on us. But we got in and I sat by myself and “B” and the kids sat together.
The show started and well…
It had language and adult innuendo from the very beginning, and it only kept going. I lost count how many times this said sh!t during the show, and there was a LOT of references to sex, male anatomy, bathroom humor, and more.
My wife and I switched seats at intermission.
The vocals were great! The songs were ok. The story was kind of like The Music Man at times. It did make me laugh at times.
I wasn’t impressed overall. I have seen lots of better shows in my life. I do wonder how it earned any Tony awards. I felt like it was written for 16-30 year old boys with a romance in there so you could take a date. I wouldn’t recommend it. I would not see it again, unlike many of the other musicals I have seen in my life.
So, don’t see it if comes along, unless of course you are into adult language, bathroom humor, and adult innuendo. Then you should see it for sure and I am sure you will enjoy it.
