So, I had another new things happen to me this week while biking. I was riding on Tuesday and something black (I think it was black) hit my glasses and then my left arm. The next thing I know my arm starts to hurt like crazy.
I look down and don’t see anything. I assumed a rock or something had hit me.
NOPE
My arm started to itch and then swell up. Here is a picture of my arm.
It is a little hard to tell, but it is red, and it is swollen. I found a small red spot on my arm, but no stinger or anything in there. So I had no idea what got me, but some kind of bug got me. I have seen a lit of black and yellow bees around our hotel, but this wasn’t near the hotel.
The skin got warm to the touch and “harder” in the red area as well. I got some antihistamine and some anti-itch cream, and that helped a little. The swelling did go down a little with that.
Even as of this morning, Friday morning, it is still swollen a little and it still itches a little.
I have never been stung/bitten by anything while riding before like this. Maybe a mosquito. So, there is another first for me here in Idaho. Less good than the last one.
I wonder if what hit you had a ‘venom’ pouch of some sort that ruptured and then spread on your skin on second contact. Suggest you contact someone at Boise State in entomology who might know local possibilities.
It happened again yesterday and I saw the bug – it was certainly a bee. I guess I am allergic to bees.
