So there was a VP announcement, the Republican convention, Democrats complaining, and a shooting.
What a week!
Starting with the Democrats and how more and more of them are not liking what they see in President Biden. I don’t blame them. I haven’t thought much of Biden from the get go other than he was most likely going to not cause turmoil. He certainly has not cause political turmoil during his presidency. But he is more than showing his age. There are so many things that have occurred in the last few weeks that I think anyone who cares about the USA would be concerned about hiving him in the office for another 4 years.
But what does that mean for the Democrats? I think this gives them an opportunity to change things around. What I think will happen is that they won’t do anything unless Biden steps down on his own. I am also concerned that they will move to VP Harris as their choice, and that is not a good choice (in my opinion). She is way too polarizing, similar to Trump, to get enough votes. There is no way I would vote for her. But I think that there are democrats that could get nominated that would pull in the right leaning center group. Mark Kelly would be one I think. There are things I don’t like about him either, but he would be a better choice than either Harris or Trump. He would probably get my vote.
UPDATE – I wrote the above sections Sunday morning, and then Sunday afternoon look what happened! So, It appears the VP Harris is going to get the nomination, and as I stated above I don’t think that is a good choice. I think it would be very interesting to let the convention get heated and have them figure it out there, but that won’t happen. Now we just have to see who will be her VP candidate. My guess is that it will be a white guy from a swing state, perhaps Mark Kelly.
Now to the republican side of things.
Let’s start with the big one – the shooting. I can’t believe the secret service allowed that to happen. I know nothing is perfect, and with the sophistication of guns these days you would have to have the most insane “net” possible to prevent something like this from happening, but still, it shouldn’t’ have happened. I don’t want to see anyone killed. I am a little surprised the person got as close as he did to killing Trump. I have enjoyed all the conspiracy theories out there about the shooting as well. From “Biden’s group planned it so that gun control would get considered by Trump if he wins” to “Trump planned it so that he would look tougher to Americans” to “(some country) was trying to take Trump out and missed”. It is all so funny to me. I have no idea why this person wanted to do this. Would he have done the same if it were Biden instead of Trump? Maybe. As I assumed though, Trump has taken this a run with it as a way to bolster himself up. That guy is so full of himself.
The Republican Convention was quite the Trump love fest wasn’t it. I mean what did anyone expect. Trump was going to be the nominee, and so everyone there to talk had to be on the Trump bandwagon. What bothered me about it was that all the former people that ran against him, some of whom I liked, rallied behind Trump and said, “America needs him”. No, American needs some else. Ms. Haley was the person I liked early on, but seeing her back Trump was a disappointment. I know politically she “had” to so that she has a republican political career in the future, but it is still hard to watch.
And that leads to the VP announcement – JD Vance. I must say that up until about a year ago JD Vance seemed like someone that I could have supported as a possible president. He is younger, he has a good background, he doesn’t come from a political family background, and he seemed to be anti-Trump. Well, that changed when he realized he could win elections with Trump’s support. Oh well. Just another person looking to climb the ladder using what the vocal masses want. Can a VP be kicked out by a president? Maybe if Trump wins and Vance becomes VP he will turn on Trump and and do his own thing. If the VP can’t be kicked out then that may not be that bad of an option. Of course that means Trump would have to win the election.
Speaking on that – Trump will win if nothing changes between now and the election day. At least that is my prediction. But if the Democrats do change their nominee then things may not go that way. I think the Trump camp is worried that someone else will take Biden’s place. I don’t think they are concerned about Harris, but that someone else may come in and shake things up.
And if Trump wins, on well, I lived through it the last time and I can do it again. If Biden wins, oh well, I am living through it right now and can do it again. If someone else wins, that may be a great thing for the country.
Like I said, what a week in politics here in the USA.
