So yesterday we the afternoon at our local water park -Roaring Springs. It is a very nice water park. It has a lot of slides of varying size and craziness. And the best part is that is is just down the street from our house.
We wanted to hit the park this weekend because it is supposed to get cooler here in Idaho over the next week, and we were concered that we would be too cold to go next weekend. I know that the locals probably think it is still warm when the high is 89, but for AZ people that is cold for a water park day. It was in the mid-90’s yesterday and so we thought it would be a good time to go.
So we headed over after church and lunch.
The first thing we did is look at the rating on the slides. This park rates their slides like a ski resort rates the slopes.
- GREEN (circle) for lite and easy rides – think the lazy river
- Blue (square) for the middle level rides – think your typical water slide
- Black (diamond) for the extreme rides – basically anything else that has lots of movement, twists, etc.
We hit a black first and it had a big inner-tube that we all fit into and it goes down an undulating slope over about 3-4 stories. Not too bad. The water was cold though. There was much screaming as we headed down.
We hit the black diamond next the the one we just went on for our next ride. Again we were all on a big inner-tube together. This one had a black tunnel that went around in curves and then spit us out. This one was fun, but it made me not feel so good. I had that sea-sick feeling going on. Not what I wanted.
So we decided to take it a little easier by heading to the lazy river – a green. It was a pretty fast lazy river, but comparing it to the Boise River maybe it is considered lazy. After we started around, I again was feeling not so great. I couldn’t believe it. It is a lazy river, how can it make me feel sick. So after that I needed a break. Of course the kids were doing great!
We went over to the wave pool and the ladies all had a great time there. The waves were pretty big at times. I hung out at the edge.
Then we went on a paired slide that was just a drop and then you get shot into a deep pool. You drop a good 3 feet at the bottom of the slide until you hit the water. It was a fun. I did get a lot of water up my nose but not too bad. Then over to another not so lazy river that had waves in it. I chose to sit that one out, and the ladies said it was ok.
We did a vortex ride that was in pairs. It is a toilet bowl style ride. It was good. It didn’t agree with me, but I wanted to have fun with the family on the ride. They decided to do it again, and I sat out. After that it was time to get some food, and the ladies saw huckleberry funnel cake and they REALLY wanted that. So I got that while they went around the lazy river again. The ladies ate and enjoyed that (I am not a huckleberry fan), and then we headed home.
So, it was fun. Yes I felt ill, but I think that it was worth the time and money for us to enjoy. The girls said a season pass was something they would consider in the future. We live about a 5-7 minute bike ride to it so it is something that is certainly doable in the future.
So, I would recommend it for sure. I think that it has a lot to offer. It wasn’t too busy yesterday, but I am sure when it iget really hot here in Idaho I bet it gets really busy.
