I enjoy books. I try to read a physical book (either in paper or on a tablet) every night before bed, and I also listen to audiobooks as well. I usually have 2 books going at the same time; one in each form.

At the moment I am reading “The Fold” by Peter Clines. It is book 2 in his Threshold Universe. I have read this book in audio form before and this is the first time I am reading it in physical form. I really love this book, and I really love the series as a whole.
These books are what I would call present day sci-fi. There aren’t crazy laser weapons or robots or things like that. They are people that are like us doing regular things. Ok, “The Fold” is about scientist trying to develop teleportation technology, which is a bit out there, but at the same time there are researchers doing exactly that right now. So, I guess it isn’t that far out there.
This book looks at a group of scientists that have figured out instantaneous teleportation. It is being funded by the government and they send in a person to “evaluate” the process and see if there is anything wrong with it. During the course of the book you find out that things are not as they seem. No surprise there.
I like how the author leads us from the start to the end. The book has people that are real, and they have issues that come up. I like how the people start as two groups that seem to have some tension between them, but then come together to figure out how to solve the problem that arises during the course of the book.
What I really like is that while it is in the same universe as his previous book, 14 (an amazing book), it isn’t overtly in the same universe for the majority of the book. This allows one to enjoy just this book on its own without having to know anything about the other book to really understand what is going on. All previous knowledge does is add a nice connection to things that happened in the other book.
I also like that it is an easy read. I find the book easy to get into, and then stay in the book. That is key for me when reading. I don’t like books that are hard to get pulled into before they get good, or books that long winded in the middle and hard to get through.
You should check it out. There are a few books in the series and they are all good. I love the first two: 14 and The Fold. For the best reading I would read them both and in order, but you don’t have to read 14 if you just want to read The Fold.
