Latest updates on Ford, Toilet and now the VW

As I mentioned earlier this week I had to take care of an issue with the Ford and the first mechanic I dealt with. I called them and told them what was going on. They asked to see the car one more time, with me present, to go over the coolant issues (diluted coolant and leak). I agreed and that was what I did on Friday morning. I took it over and they opened the hood and showed me the coolant, it looked just fine and new. I thought it had looked new as well when I looked at it, but they confirmed it. So, fail one on Ford. Then they looked for the leak (which I had already found) and they eventually found it. They said it was coming from a bleeder cap that must have had an o-ring that got pinched or damaged. But the car was too hot to work on at that point and they had to wait. I didn’t think it was a cap, but I am not a mechanic. So, I left the car and went to work. While at work they called and asked to see the Ford paperwork. So, I got that to them, and they informed me that the thing leaking wasn’t a cap at all, in fact it was a standpipe that has a level sensor in it. That part is $1100 replacement piece of plastic. Yes, $1100! I asked if they caused the leak, and they said “Not us.” So, then I took it back to Ford and asked them if they caused the problem when they had it, and of course they said, “Not us.” I am not sure what I really expected. I just have no trust in either location now. So, now I am trying to determine how to fix the problem I have with Ford. I talked with my dad and I may try method to seal the leak on the plastic part. So, the car can be driven, but it still isn’t right and needs to be fixed.

Then there is the toilet on the main floor of our house. I had to use the plunger on it again, and wouldn’t you know, after that the wax ring decided to start leaking AGAIN! So, I had to take the toilet off, again, and replace it again. This time I went with a rubber (no wax) ring. I am going to see how it goes. What is the worse that can happen this time? It last the same amount of time as the last wax ring (less than a year).

Then, if car issues weren’t going any better, I went to pick up Gwendolyn on Friday from school in my VW, and as soon as I got to the end of my driveway I heard a knocking noise. Yes, I heard a terrible knocking noise coming from the engine. So, engine off and get the car back behind the fence. Then Saturday I tried checking the valves to see if there was something clearcut as an issue, and while they all were a bit tight on adjustment, there was nothing that stood out as an issue. So, back together and it still made the knocking noise. Now I have to figure out what is going on with the VW as well. I am concerned about it being a rod bearing If it is, then the engine has to come out and completely torn apart. I really don’t want to do that, but at least I know how to do that.

And to top it all off, I have been sick all weekend. I am not sure what I have (I hope just a cold). I felt it coming on Friday, Saturday I felt really bad, and today I am starting to feel a lot better. So, I think it has passed. Now I am just really praying that no one else in the family gets it. And so my wonderful wife and oldest child made cookies all afternoon. I was supposed to help with that because 30 of them were for my work cookie exchange.

I am blessed! But boy was it a weekend and it will continue on for a bit still.

So, how was your weekend?
