Family to the Rescue

Tuesday afternoon I had an incident at home and my family came to my rescue.

We get jars of honey delivered to our house every month. I was opening our latest arrival and as I was getting the glass jar out from its very taped up bubble wrap I felt an incredibly sharp pain in my thumb. I knew I had been cut, and badly. I yelled for help, and everyone came running. I had grabbed my thumb very tightly and hadn’t looked at it.

My wife got the girls out of the kitchen, and then looked at the jar to see what was going on. At frist it looked fine, but then upon closer look it was clear that the glass was cracked in many places. I was over at the kitchen sick trying to decide what to do.

My oldest got bandages, gauze and alcohol (for my thumb of course) and then it was time to look at the thumb. I moved my other hand and my wife and I took a look. At frist it didn’t look too bad, just a horizontal line across my right thumb. Then the blood started coming out, and then it was dripping into the sink at a regular rate. (I don’t care much for blood).

I was given a cotton ball with alcohol on it to clean it out, but not pulling back the flap of skin since I was pretty sure the bleeding would get MUCH worse if I did. So, I cleaned it out and then my wife wrapped it in gauze and tape.

It hurt a lot. I then had to take my youngest to dance. After dance we headed to my oldest kid’s honor orchestra concert and then to ice cream and then home for the evening.

The next day I finally took the bandage all off and it look ok. I have a good cut, but it didn’t look too bad. So I put medication on it and a new, regular bandaid on it. It still hurts today, but I am sure it will be fine.

Oh, and I was disappointed about the honey since it was the flavor I really like (Pueblo Clover). I contacted them and they have sent out a new jar, and they said they hope my finger heals quickly. I hope it does as well.

My family rushed to my aid and they were great! I am so blessed.
