Yes, I am going to write about toilet paper.
I don’t think of myself as someone that is a toilet paper diva. It is true that I don’t like the TP at my school where I work. But honestly who really likes that industrial TP? I have used TP made from recycled paper before and I remember it being a bit scratchy, and not all that great. But other than those I would say I don’t tend to mind TP. I don’t ever recall myself judging someone if I was using the TP at their house. I used and move on.
But now I have had something happen and it spurred in me the desire to write about it.
At my house we have for many years used the Charmin TP that we would get at Costco. Even during the pandemic we were using that. The nice part of Costco was that we could get it in bulk and therefore we would have it for a long time. As a family we have really enjoyed it and we have never had any complaints about it.
Well, on a recent trip to Costco I looked at the price of the Charmin vs the Kirkland brand, and I was a bit taken aback. The cost of the Kirkland TP was half the price of the Charmin. It is true that the Kirkland was on sale, but at half the price I found it hard to not consider getting it. So, I did a quick online search on reviews, and I even asked a few people their thoughts on it. Everyone there, and most of the reviews online, talked about how great it was. A lot said they liked it more than the Charmin, and they preferred everything about it.
So, I thought it must be pretty good so let’s get it.
That was a mistake. We started using it the other day and as a family we all agree that it is pretty awful. It is rough and not as absorbent. I find myself using more than usual. I honestly don’t understand how people think this is better. I find it a step above the industrial stuff. It feels to me as if they took 2 rolls of the industrial stuff and just put them together. The quality is subpar, and I see no value in it. Well, there was “value” in it, because it was so much cheaper, but boy is it crap when it comes to TP.
And now we have a Costco amount of it to get through. We are not going to toss it just because we don’t like it. We will power through it and be overjoyed when it is all gone and we can return to the Charmin.
The Charmin is soft and absorbent. It is easy to use and I find myself using little of it when I need it. I must admit I don’t get the new wavey perforations they have on them now, but that is neither here nor there. It is still the best way to go. Cost be damned!
What do you think about TP? Do you have a preference?
