WOW! This week has been quite a week in the saga of buying a house in Idaho. Let’s break it down day by day:
Monday: Got a call from April at the title company in Idaho asking about the Closing Disclosure (CD), and if I had seen it yet or not. I said, I wasn’t sure but would check when I was home. When I got home I found no (CD) from he loan company so I reached out to them. I said we needed it since we were scheduled to sign closing papers on Thursday in AZ so they could be overnighted to Idaho to close on Friday. I didn’t hear anything that evening.
Tuesday: After taking my kids to school I headed out on my usually bike ride, and shortly into it I had a call from the lending agent, Jim. He said, “We have a problem.” I was like, “What?!” Well, he didn’t know we were signing in AZ and therefore needed the day to overnight it to Idaho. The CD requires a 3 day federal processing time before we could legally sign the closing paperwork. That meant Friday, but that meant the paperwork couldn’t get to Idaho until next Tuesday (Memorial Day weekend). I was on the side of the road going, “What is going on here!?” So, I asked them to get things completed and we needed to get things worked out. I was so irritated and stressed out. I was thinking we could lose out on the house because someone messed up on dates. We have a contract to finalize on Friday, not the following Tuesday. The sellers could walk due to breech of contract. What were we going to do?? That was all going through my head. I called my realtor (Brian), while standing on the side of Chandler Blvd, and was like, what the heck! He was going to look into it. I hurried home, and immediately signed the CD, and asked Beverly to get it signed, but she was in a MAJOR meeting on the east coast. She looked at the paperwork and saw that the seller’s concessions, weren’t listed on and wouldn’t sign it. I talked with Brian and he said to sign it and would get the concessions in the final paperwork. I called the Title company, and let April know. Then I started praying. I knew that there was nothing I could do at this point, and that it was all in God’s hands. April called and let me know that they were working on it, and to not worry. Things like this happen more often then I realize, and that there was a chance it would still work out for Friday. That helped. As the day progressed I was on and off the phone I have no idea how many times and for how many hours, but by the end of the day April had told me that her boss was trying to determine if we could sign on Friday and have the papers delivered to the Chandler branch of their company and to have it all filed correctly. I was hopeful. She told me to go ahead and have the utilities transferred over on the Friday so that things would be ready to go just in case.
Wednesday: I woke up a bit better. I took care of the utilities and that went really well. I talked to 2 very pleasant ladies and they were very interested in why we were moving and what AZ was like. I learned that one of ther reasons this mess all occurred was that the person at the title company that was originally doing our paperwork up and left the company a few days prior without notice and the title company was playing catchup on what needed to happen with all the contract that person was working on. So, that explains a lot of the confusion that occurred. Then I got the good news from April that we could sign on Friday and ahve the paperwork delivered the Chandler, AZ office, and then the Idaho office could file the paperwork there. So, all was set for Friday, except I didn’t know how much money to send to the title company to pay for the house.
Thursday: I worked on other Idaho things today mostly (school related things for “A”). I was getting a bit worried by 3pm AZ time that I hadn’t heard about the amount to wire for the house that I called April, and she told me that I would get the number shortly, she was just starting my file. A bit later she called and talked me through the final numbers. It came it a bit less than expected which was nice. She also helped me understand a few other things that occur in Idaho with regard to taxes and stuff and she will help us out with that once we are in Idaho. She has been truly wonderful to deal with.
Friday: Today was the BIG day. We had a mobile notary at our house at 8am this morning to get us through all the paperwork (120+ pages). It went well, and it all looked good. Then we signed, initialed, and dated everything. We own a new house in Meridian, ID! Then I got a call from my bank just as the notary was leaving. Apparently I hit the wring button on the wire transfer yesterday and it didn’t go through correctly. Thankfully I was able to work with someone on the phone from the bank and they fixed it all for me. I like working with competent people.
So there you have it. My family owns a new home in another state. “B” and I will be heading up there soonish to get appliances installed, measurements for new flooring in a chunk of the house, and do some painting. Then back here to AZ for a few weeks, and then we move to ID.
What a trip so far.
Here is a picture of the house
Congratulations!
Sweet!!!
Looks good.
Looking forward to seeing it in person. Hopefully in the next year or two.
I think closing on a house has to have stress and adventure in it. Buying our house here had similar chaos. Not fun at all, but worked out being better for us in the end.
Yo,
Your Bro.
