Winter – Music

Today I decided to listen to the album “Winter” by Jon Foreman. I have the seasons EP’s on vinyl (yes, it is signed by Jon as well), and I thought I would have a listen today. It is winter after all.

This is a great little EP. It has 6 songs on it. I must admit that I don’t like all the songs, but I really like other songs on it.

The track list is:

Side A

  • Learning How to Die
  • Behind Your Eyes
  • Somebody’s Baby

Side B

  • White and Snow
  • I Am Still Running
  • In Love

Side A is better in my opinion overall than side B. I really like all 3 songs on that side. The one that I love is Somebody’s Baby. It is a very sad song honestly. It is about a woman that feels (and may be) unloved. She has made many bad decisions in her life and as a result her life and death seem to come and go without anyone noticing. But the chorus reminds the listener that she is “Somebody’s Baby Girl” over and over again. Having daughters makes this song hit home more as well. I need to make sure my kids know I love them all the time. I never want my kids to think that I don’t love them and that they are on their own. They always have God, but I want them to know they always have me. They will both always be “Somebody’s (mine) baby girl.”

On side B I don’t like “In Love” at all really. I just don’t care for it musically. I do really like “White as Snow”. It has lines from Psalm 51 and is a reminder that I need to be made white as snow, and cleansed by the grace of God. It is a sweet prayer I think. At least that I what I do when I am singing along to it.

And hey, I got to listen to a record today. That was really nice as well. I don’t listen as much as I would like to. I think I will make an effort to listen more often, and then I will make a quick post about what I am listening to. Maybe that will keep me on track to listen more to my vinyl collection. I certainly own a lot of vinyl.

    Hi Bro,
Good music choice for the day. Great EP. But I agree, In Love is not my style.

I heard Jon talk about the inspiration for Somebody’s Baby. He said it was seeing a filthy homeless woman on the street brushing her teeth with the water from a public water fountain. That’s why the woman is alone and feels unloved. Definitely one of the saddest songs you can listen to, but also the best on the EP.

I really like I Am Still Running from the music style. Just has a bit of a bluesy style that I love to groove to.

    Good to read from you!
    Your Bro
